Cyber Smarts Reflection

Today I did a cyber smarts quiz. This term I did achieved my cyber smarts goal of keeping aware of our cyber footprint, and the other cyber smart goals that I learnt this term. One thing I found hard was watching a video that included something fake, then figuring out if it was fake or not.

Next term I might try learning how to be cyber aware on cyberspace.

Title: Fishing Practices

Introduction

Fishing practices have evolved with time and era. Co-operating with the needs of current businesses which have been providing them with many things in return.

First paragraph:
Dredging is a method used for fishing practises. The dredge is usually constructed from a heavy steel frame in the form of a scoop. The frame is covered  with a chain mesh that is opened on the front side which is towed behind the boat. Dredge nets have a coarse mesh in order to let creatures smaller than the intended target through. This method hold multiple negatives and positives. It captures an abundant amount of scallops and oysters in contrast to this positive it scrapes along the ocean floor. Bringing up silt gives the water a dirty appearance. Sometimes as it scrapes the bottom of the ocean it bumps into coral breaking the homes of fish that live there sometime unintentionally catching the wrong fish.

Second Paragraph
Gillnetting is a common fishing method that has been used and still used for fishermens who do fishing practises. It is a method used by both commercial and artisinal fishermen. The gill nets are mostly used for vertical traps. The gill net seizes fish like sharks, sea turtles and swordfishes. The only problem with gill nets is that it kills the fish while they’re getting dragged by the net. However when using this method it   retrieves multiple fish in go while anchored in that one spot.

Third Paragraph

Longline fishing is a fishing technique we use. Longline can be set to hang near the ocean floor to capture fish such as tuna and swordfish. The issue about longline fishing is that it can damage the ocean floor. This techniques causes multiple issues . Such as the attraction it receives from  albatross flying over. The bait is seen by these creatures prompting them to dive underwater to retrieve the bait causing them to be hooked onto the hooks in comparison to this negative point this technique  does also, like other captures a lot of fish.

Fourth Paragraph
Trawling, another fishing method similar to dredging. On the high sea un-regulated bottom trawlers operating in waters well off the coast, are laying wastes to huge swaths of the ocean floor.  Sea Mountains and hills that rise from the ocean floor but do not come above the ocean surface are being damaged  by industrial fishing practises. Many rare and old even unknown species of creatures and underwater plants and corals are at danger. It was discovered in small sand habitats where the plaice prefer polychaetes trawling does have a small positive effect of trawling. In comparison to this negative scientist have found evidence that trawling can be productive. It can remove competing species underwater fishermen observed this in coastal locations with natural with natural sea bed disturbances.

CONCLUSION:
There are multiple fishing practises or industrial fishing techniques. They each bring a fair amount of negative and positive effects  to the ocean. There are even some people trying to prevent these practises from continuing. What do you think?

How the turtle got its shell

This is me and my buddy Simon's drat for 'How The Turtle Got Its Shell'. We thought about it but we didn't really like our story, so we changed it all around. Read our story bellow and give us some feed back and feed forward. Hope You Enjoy!!!!

How the turtle got its shell

A long time ago, in the depths of the ocean there lived a young fragile, sea turtle who was indeed very rusty looking. Living next to him was his big boastful sea snail neighbour. Both of them were quite the opposite but they had one thing in common, they were both scared of the King of Sharks.

One day when Sea Snail was boasting about his shell as usual, along came the King of Sharks. Sea snail didn't see this because he was looking at his wonderful shell.  Suddenly, the King Of Sharks made a loud roar and gave sea snail a big jump."Ahhh!" screamed sea snail, "help me!"While this was happening, sea turtle heard the little yelp. He quickly went to help sea snail who was in very big danger.

Just as the King Of Sharks was about to take a big bite out of sea snail, sea turtle kicked the King Of Sharks in the nose with his feet. The King Of Sharks yelped out loud, making a very loud noise and then dozing off to sleep, for that was what happened when you kicked the sharks in the nose."You saved me! But my shell has gotten flat when the King Of Sharks came, and tried to eat me! Here you can have it! I don't want it anymore! I can get a new one," said sea snail gratefully.  "Thanks," sea turtle said excitedly. From that day on, sea turtle always had his beautiful curly shaped shell. He was impressed about it but never boasted. That's how sea turtle got its shell.

Persuasive Writing about Why Collaboration Is Best

Collaboration.

When it comes to learning in the classroom, collaboration is the best, right? That is why I have chosen  to collaborate , and hopefully, if you are one of the “no -  to - collaboration” people, then this is the piece of writing that will convince you to collaborate.

When collaborating, you gain new knowledge and also, share prior knowledge with others giving you the opportunity to improve your idea. This means that when working with  a group, you will share your knowledge, and also, gain more knowledge from others in the group. Since having this reason here, we all share lots of knowledge, because we learn more from our friends than our teachers (no offence). Sometimes when your teacher teaches something so hard, you just lose focus, but when you teacher says for you to think about what it means in a GROUP, your friends might break it down for you and before you know it, it’s like a walk in the park.

My second reason for why collaboration is best is because you get more work done when you are working cooperatively. This is meaning that when alone, sometimes, you might  distract yourself. When with others, or in a group, you don’t get distracted, and instead, do more work, and with more people with you, the more work done. For homework, me and some of my friends work together for homework. We got more work done than the other times I worked by myself.

My final reason for why collaboration is best for learning, is because you can develop skills that you need when you go to highschool - you might go to a school where you hardly know anyone so it is good to have good social skills and make new friends. What I mean is that if you are on your last year at school, working with others will help you develop more skills you will need for college. I have worked with groups, and so far, I have many skills, and am ready for next year.

When you think about the word collaborating, what do you think it means? Well,  hopefully this explanation has said it all. Maybe you will think of collaborating as something better than what you thought before. So now you can collaborate with others in your everyday life.I  will choose to collaborate
