My Explanation

WALT: write a explanation

Have you ever wondered how Electricity travels?

Today we need electricity to survive. Electricity helps us live. Without electricity we will not be able to do many things like cook on the oven, search the internet or watch T.V for the news.

Did you know that most of your electricity first comes from power stations? Inside a power station is a device called a generator which is is an electrical appliance. Not many people know that an energy source - like wind water and coal turns the huge blades of a turbine inside of a generator which spins a powerful magnet. The spinning magnet creates a flow of electricity.

As strange as it may seem, after a while power lines from the power plant go to a place where transformers reduce the voltage. Did you know that eventually the distribution lines carry electricity to homes and buildings? This is where electricity is produced to turn on the electrical appliances. Distribution lines can be located overhead or under ground

Manaiakalani Film Festival 2012 - School Is Cool

In Term 2 we were learning a lot about movie magic, and how movies can influence our world. We created many movies. We started by brainstorming key messages we could include in our movies.

We also made a movie that explains how to plant kumara. It was really fun to do. We created this movie to inspire people to learn how to grow their own kumara.

Our movie for The Manaiakalani Film Festival is called 'School Is Cool'. We made it to share all of the cool learning and fun that we have at school.

Our movie was also shown at the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards. We created a PMI about Movie Magic and shared what we liked, what was challenging and interesting.

Guy Fawkes

Today we did buddy writing with Room 8. We wrote a description about a guy fawkes scene. My buddy writing was Loni

As the moon shook hands with the sun we could see colourful fireworks meeting together with the stars.I could see little kids laughing and having fun with their sparkly sparkles. I could see families bonding together as if they haven't seen each other for years.I felt amazed and excited because of all the fireworks that were going on.
I could hear fireworks exploding into my ears. I could also
hear drunk people singing along to the fireworks. I could hear dogs barking and hiding from the fireworks with fear. I could smell the smoke gliding towards my face. I could also smell sausage sizzle and BBQ. I could taste the smoke coming in and out of my mouth and nose.

My Journey To Universal

Hi, my name is Taylor. For my holiday I went to Hollywood in America. One place we visited was Universal Studios. It took 7 hours to get there from Sacramento which is in California. On the way there we pulled over to get some breakfast. When we finished eating our breakfast we hit the free-way again and we  continued the 7 hour drive. Only 4 hours left to get to our destination, we went past one of the famous mountains in California. I asked my dad why was it famous, he said “ Well a long, long, long time ago the American Indian people people lived on that mountain and they used to team up with California when they used to have disagreements with other states".
When we finally got to Universal we had to pay $ 20.00 for parking. I was soooo happy to be there!! Let the fun begin!!!!

Planting Around The World

WALT research information about the roles, rights, and responsibilities people have to maintain sustainable food sources.

Planting/Farming Around the World Group: Taylor, Malia and Chardonnay

What is planting like in Africa?
In Africa people find it really hard to plant fruits and vegetables because most of the time the weather is too hot and dry for crops to grow. Droughts often happen in Africa which is hard for plant sustainability to happen.

Facts about sustainable farming in Africa

In the  dry areas where it hardly rains, where do farmers get their water?
The water is brought into the dry inland farms through the use of irrigation and they can also use the underground water sources.
Compare farming and planting roles and responsibilities within 2 different countries. For example farming and planting in Africa and  New Zealand. Use a Venn diagram on Lucid Charts or use Popplet.

Importing and Exporting
How is food imported and exported around the world.
Some countries send their food on a plane, trucks, ships, boat or in a helicopter.
What foods are imported in New Zealand.
Mango, cassava, coconut milk, coconut it in planes and some export there plant, fruit and vegetables in the boat.
What foods are imported in New Zealand.
  • Mango
  • cassava
  • coconut milk
  • coconut
  • Chocolate
  • cookies
  • Banana

What things are exported to other countries

  • Wool
  • Lamb
  • Apples
  • Milk
  • Medicine

What is the difference between farmers in rich countries and in poor countries?

In New Zealand there is green grass and the kiwi’s have more water and healthy product but in African people don't have that much rain so they can't plant or grow anything except for caktus. If they want to grow something it would die because there is no oxygen to help it breath. Also in Africa there is no Clean  water or rain to help the plant grow bigger and bigger.

TO

What are our roles, rights and responsibilities to maintain sustainable food sources.

  • Planting fruits and vegetables in your garden.
  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Look after your garden.
  • Make sure you water it  every day but make sure you don't water it too much or it will die.
  • Make sure that here is not too much  for the plant or it will not get the sunlight that it needs.
  • If you have pets or rats that like to  eat the things in your garden you must be careful or you can build a little cage for the plants.
