My Explanation

WALT: write a explanation

Have you ever wondered how Electricity travels?

Today we need electricity to survive. Electricity helps us live. Without electricity we will not be able to do many things like cook on the oven, search the internet or watch T.V for the news.

Did you know that most of your electricity first comes from power stations? Inside a power station is a device called a generator which is is an electrical appliance. Not many people know that an energy source - like wind water and coal turns the huge blades of a turbine inside of a generator which spins a powerful magnet. The spinning magnet creates a flow of electricity.

As strange as it may seem, after a while power lines from the power plant go to a place where transformers reduce the voltage. Did you know that eventually the distribution lines carry electricity to homes and buildings? This is where electricity is produced to turn on the electrical appliances. Distribution lines can be located overhead or under ground

Manaiakalani Film Festival 2012 - School Is Cool

In Term 2 we were learning a lot about movie magic, and how movies can influence our world. We created many movies. We started by brainstorming key messages we could include in our movies.

We also made a movie that explains how to plant kumara. It was really fun to do. We created this movie to inspire people to learn how to grow their own kumara.

Our movie for The Manaiakalani Film Festival is called 'School Is Cool'. We made it to share all of the cool learning and fun that we have at school.

Our movie was also shown at the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards. We created a PMI about Movie Magic and shared what we liked, what was challenging and interesting.

Guy Fawkes

Today we did buddy writing with Room 8. We wrote a description about a guy fawkes scene. My buddy writing was Loni

As the moon shook hands with the sun we could see colourful fireworks meeting together with the stars.I could see little kids laughing and having fun with their sparkly sparkles. I could see families bonding together as if they haven't seen each other for years.I felt amazed and excited because of all the fireworks that were going on.
I could hear fireworks exploding into my ears. I could also
hear drunk people singing along to the fireworks. I could hear dogs barking and hiding from the fireworks with fear. I could smell the smoke gliding towards my face. I could also smell sausage sizzle and BBQ. I could taste the smoke coming in and out of my mouth and nose.

My Journey To Universal

Hi, my name is Taylor. For my holiday I went to Hollywood in America. One place we visited was Universal Studios. It took 7 hours to get there from Sacramento which is in California. On the way there we pulled over to get some breakfast. When we finished eating our breakfast we hit the free-way again and we  continued the 7 hour drive. Only 4 hours left to get to our destination, we went past one of the famous mountains in California. I asked my dad why was it famous, he said “ Well a long, long, long time ago the American Indian people people lived on that mountain and they used to team up with California when they used to have disagreements with other states".
When we finally got to Universal we had to pay $ 20.00 for parking. I was soooo happy to be there!! Let the fun begin!!!!

Planting Around The World

WALT research information about the roles, rights, and responsibilities people have to maintain sustainable food sources.

Planting/Farming Around the World Group: Taylor, Malia and Chardonnay

What is planting like in Africa?
In Africa people find it really hard to plant fruits and vegetables because most of the time the weather is too hot and dry for crops to grow. Droughts often happen in Africa which is hard for plant sustainability to happen.

Facts about sustainable farming in Africa

In the  dry areas where it hardly rains, where do farmers get their water?
The water is brought into the dry inland farms through the use of irrigation and they can also use the underground water sources.
Compare farming and planting roles and responsibilities within 2 different countries. For example farming and planting in Africa and  New Zealand. Use a Venn diagram on Lucid Charts or use Popplet.

Importing and Exporting
How is food imported and exported around the world.
Some countries send their food on a plane, trucks, ships, boat or in a helicopter.
What foods are imported in New Zealand.
Mango, cassava, coconut milk, coconut it in planes and some export there plant, fruit and vegetables in the boat.
What foods are imported in New Zealand.
  • Mango
  • cassava
  • coconut milk
  • coconut
  • Chocolate
  • cookies
  • Banana

What things are exported to other countries

  • Wool
  • Lamb
  • Apples
  • Milk
  • Medicine

What is the difference between farmers in rich countries and in poor countries?

In New Zealand there is green grass and the kiwi’s have more water and healthy product but in African people don't have that much rain so they can't plant or grow anything except for caktus. If they want to grow something it would die because there is no oxygen to help it breath. Also in Africa there is no Clean  water or rain to help the plant grow bigger and bigger.

TO

What are our roles, rights and responsibilities to maintain sustainable food sources.

  • Planting fruits and vegetables in your garden.
  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Look after your garden.
  • Make sure you water it  every day but make sure you don't water it too much or it will die.
  • Make sure that here is not too much  for the plant or it will not get the sunlight that it needs.
  • If you have pets or rats that like to  eat the things in your garden you must be careful or you can build a little cage for the plants.

The Great Adventures Of Banana, Apple And Orange

One sunny brigh day in a town called Fruitland, there lived thousands of fruit and every Wednesday  farmers would put fruit in their humongous trucks and take the fruit to the markets. Out of all the fruit that was there, there were three fruits named Banana, Apple and Orange. They liked going on adventures but they didn't like to go to the markets on the farmers trucks.Orange had a round beautiful orange body with orange shining eyes like a superstar. Banana on the other hand had a long tall curved body, one hundred times better than Oranges eyes but he was really bossy .Apple on the other, other hand is a sweet little apple who always likes to follow Banana and Orange around.

It all started on a bright, sunny day. Banana, Apple and Orange were right at the front of fruitland singing a song and along comes a man named Mat. Mat picked Banana, Apple and Orange up and put them in his gigantic truck to get taken to the market.Banana starts panicking because they were getting close to the market and then he came up with an idea and he  said “Hey boys why don't we jump out if we do we have to do it fast!”
“Yeah I think so too we should, we are almost close to the market!” replied Orange.
“Ahhh guys, I don't think this is good Idea I mean we could get killed, this is serious,” Apple said.
“But the worst way to die is to get eaten by a human, isn't it,” Orange spoke with fear.
“Well yeah,” Apple replied.
“So less taking more moving!” Banana said.So the fruit jumed off the truck. “Aww!” apple cried “I broke my apple core!”
“Ouch I broke part of my banana skin!” moaned Banana
“ Ohhh my gosh i’m blind my beautiful eyes are gone, ccccrrruuussshhh you banana!”. They were all arguing but until they saw a boat. They and stared for a while and then  banana said “Hey why don't we go ride on the boat maybe we will be safe over there,”
Apple said “yeah I think this is a good idea too!”.
So Banana, Apple and Orange walked to the boat and did you know what almost happened to orange? Well you know how he has no eyes he almost fell into the sea but luckily Banana and Apple were guiding him so he would be safe. When they got on a boat a man named Fread almost stood on the three fruits, then all of a sudden fred heard a little voice “Watch out!” Banana shouted to Fred “Hey who said that who said that whoever you are show yourself,” Fred said
“Its us we are little fruits down here at the bottom!” the three fruits said.
“Ohh my talking fruits!”spoke fred.
fred freaks out faits fred state's unconscious for a little while.

When he woke up he walks off the boat and carries the fruits out with him because he thought if he takes them home maybe they will explain to him how they can talk and where they came from. When they got to Fred's house, Fred carries Banana, Apple and Orange in to his big beautiful house. Then when they all sat down the fruits finally told fread what happened and why they ran away. Then Fred told them something and that something was to never run away because it might get you in a big lot of trouble. From this the fruits have learned never to run away no matter what, but these fruit were lucking because they got to live with fred in his big mansion .

The End
